After it was claimed in a social media post that a delivery person shared information regarding a "scam" occurring on the meals delivery platform, Zomato's chief executive officer (CEO) has responded. In a LinkedIn post, entrepreneur Vinay Sati described his encounter with the Zomato delivery worker. When the executive told him to choose cash on delivery (COD) as the payment method the next time he placed an order using the application, he claimed that he experienced "goosebumps" after hearing about it.
The delivery worker, according to Sati, showed him how to order meals worth Rs. 700–800 and pay merely Rs. 200 via COD. At the time this news was published, the message had over 600 reactions on LinkedIn and had been reposted 18 times. Deepinder Goyal, CEO of Zomato, took notice of it as well and said he has knowledge about this and is working to close the gaps," he commented under the post.
Sati claimed to have placed a burger order with Zomato and paid for it online. After 30 to 40 minutes had passed, the delivery agent arrived with the food supplies and gave the business owner some advice about not using online payment in the future.
Sati claims that the delivery man further stated that, despite actually delivering the goods, he would inform his employer that he had not received the order. Sati claimed the delivery person told him, "Aap bas mujhe 200-300 de dena or 1,000 ke khane ke maje lena, (You just give me 200-300, or 1,000 and enjoy the food)."
The businessman then included Goyal in his tweet and advised him not to behave as if he is unaware of it, calling the practise "shocking." "And if you (Goyal) are unable to solve it even after knowing all this," What are your #IIM members doing then? Sati posted a message.
After finding out about the purported swindle, he claimed that he only had two choices. The first was to accept the delivery person's "offer," and the second was to make the scandal public. In the post, he said, "Being an entrepreneur, I picked the second alternative.
